Justine Daí
During this time she also completed a degree in sales and marketing and worked with Red Bull as a Student Brand Manager - an experience immersed in sport, events and high-energy brand culture.
Her travels eventually brought her to Australia. During this visit to Port Douglas she met her partner Carlo, and when she returned a year later in December 2015, she met Wendy just days before Barbados Port Douglas opened.
At the time her English was limited, but her determination and work ethic quickly stood out - something those who work with her know is second to none. She began behind the bar and on the floor, later becoming venue manager and working closely alongside Wendy during the early years of the business.
As Martinique Island Style continued to grow, Justine asked to work alongside Wendy there while continuing to support operations at Barbados. Over time she worked across both businesses, balancing the fast-paced world of the restaurant with the creative rhythm of Martinique Island Style.
Over the past decade she has become a key part of Martinique Island Style, involved in sourcing, styling, buying trips and many of the practical decisions that shape the store. She openly credits the opportunity and guidance that shaped her development, saying she has never met someone as supportive, kind and respectful as Wendy, describing their dynamic as yin and yang - while Wendy jokingly calls it “good cop, bad cop.”
Direct and hardworking, Justine approaches design instinctively, quickly recognising what works and what doesn’t. Once she commits to something she sees it through properly. She gravitates towards bold contrasts, darker tones and strong pieces, bringing a decisive eye to the spaces she helps shape.
Over time she built her life in Australia and later became an Australian citizen, firmly establishing Port Douglas as home.
Outside of Martinique Island Style, Justine shares life with Carlo and their young son Leo. Together they have completed several renovation and property projects around Port Douglas and Mossman, transforming homes with creativity, resourcefulness and a sharp eye for value.
Fiercely loyal and quietly determined, Justine has been part of Wendy’s Port Douglas journey from the very beginning. What started behind the bar at Barbados has grown into a decade-long friendship, a trusted partnership - with plenty of fun along the way.
